Part colors and hiding

Last updated October 26, 2026

When you recolor or hide parts, the change shows not only in the editor but also on share links and embedded viewers. Changes are saved immediately.

Select a part

Click a part in the 3D view, or click its name in the Scene tree on the left. The selected part is outlined in red.

Change the color

  1. Select a part.
  2. Under Display color in the properties panel on the right, pick one of 5 presets, or use Custom to choose any color.
  3. To go back to the starting color, click Original.

You can also right-click a part in the scene tree and choose Color. The display color is saved separately from the red selection outline.

Hide parts

  • Click the eye icon next to a part in the scene tree to hide it, and click again to show it.
  • Hiding a sub-assembly also hides the parts under it.
  • Hidden parts don't appear on share links either. This is handy for showing what's inside a cover.

Isolate

Right-click a part and choose Isolate to temporarily hide everything except that part (and the assembly it belongs to). Click Exit isolate at the top of the 3D view to go back. Isolate is a temporary view that isn't saved, so it doesn't affect share links.

Rename parts

Right-click a part and choose Rename to change the name shown in the scene tree. Use it when names imported from CAD are hard to read.
