Files you can upload
| Format | Extensions | Processing | Credits |
|---|---|---|---|
| STEP | .step .stp | Converted to web 3D | 20 (50 for large files) |
| IGES | .iges .igs | Converted to web 3D | 20 (50 for large files) |
| GLB | .glb | Added as-is, no conversion | 0 |
| glTF | .gltf | Added as-is, no conversion | 0 |
CAD files of 10MB or more use the large-file rate.
How files are checked
We don't just look at the extension — we also check the beginning of the file. If the format doesn't match, you'll see "This file format isn't supported" and the file is deleted right away.
- STEP: the file must start with
ISO-10303-21;. We recommend exporting as AP214 or AP242 from your CAD tool. - IGES: the file must be standard IGES.
- GLB: the file must be glTF 2.0 binary.
- glTF: textures and buffers must be embedded in the file. If your glTF references other files, convert it to GLB and upload that instead.
One file at a time
You can upload only one file at a time for now. If your assembly is split into several files, save the whole assembly as a single STEP file in your CAD tool and upload that. Uploading referenced parts together as a ZIP is coming later.
File size
Right now you can upload up to 50MB per file on every plan (the same for STEP, IGES, GLB and glTF). Larger files are stopped before uploading, and you'll see an Ask about large files button.
Try these ways to make a large file smaller:
- Remove parts that don't need to be shown (screws, internal parts and so on) and save again
- Split the assembly into sub-assemblies and upload them as separate projects
- Export to GLB or glTF from your CAD tool and upload that — it's added without conversion and is usually much smaller
