If the conversion finishes but some faces or parts of the original couldn't be turned into 3D, you'll see "Some geometry was missing from the conversion" at the top of the editor, along with the number of missing faces and empty parts. You can still use the result.
What can be missing
| Case | What you see |
|---|---|
| Some faces couldn't be split into triangles | Small holes on the surface, or parts of a face look empty |
| Parts with no geometry | The part only has a name in the original and nothing to draw, so it doesn't appear |
Find the missing parts
- Click Show missing parts in the notice.
- Parts with missing faces are listed, most missing faces first. Click a name to select that part in the scene tree and in the view.
- Parts with no geometry are listed by name only.
If the conversion took longer than 3 minutes and you got a completion email, the email also shows the number of missing faces and empty parts.
Credits
Missing geometry is usually caused by problems in the original CAD geometry (open faces, broken surfaces and so on). Because the conversion itself was carried out, the credits (20) are charged as usual.
If no result is produced at all (no geometry found, time or memory limit, server problem), the conversion is treated as failed and your credits are returned automatically.
How to fix it
Changing the optimization level may not make much difference. Fixing the original and uploading it again is the most reliable way.
- Open the parts listed in Show missing parts in your CAD tool, check that their faces are closed (solid), and sew or stitch any gaps before saving again.
- When exporting STEP, choose AP214 or AP242, and export as solids rather than surfaces where possible.
- Create a New project with the re-exported file and convert it.
If the same file keeps losing a lot of geometry, contact the help center with the file.
